Corn Patties / Tikki

Corn Patties / Tikki recipe

Corn Patties / Tikki

Monsoon is in full swing and corn is available in the market during this period. And who doens't enjoy roasted bhuttas (corn cobs) and rubbed with chili powder and lemon when its raining.  Feeling nostalgic...

Anyways I made this corn patties for evening snacks and they turned out well. The use of chaat masala gives it a distinct taste. If you don't have chaat masala you can use amchur powder instead.
1 1/2 cup corn kernels
2 potatoes
1 1/2 cup bread crumbs
2 small green chillies
1 tsp ginger garlic paste
1 1/2 tbsp chaat masala
1/2 cup coriander leaves
4- 5 tbsp oil for shallow frying
salt as per taste
1) Boil the potatoes and corn for 4 whistles till they become tender and soft.
2) If you don't have bread crumbs check how to make them here.
3) Now mash the potatoes and corn together.
4) Add ginger garlic paste, finely chopped coriander leaves, green chilies and mix well.
5) Alternately you can grind the corn, coriander, green chilies and ginger garlic paste to form a paste which can then be added to the mashed potatoes.
6) Add chaat masala, salt and bread crumbs with the potato - corn mixture. Combine them with your hand.
7) Make small balls from the above mixture and flatten with your fingers and palm to make patties. Apply some oil if the batter sticks to your hand.
8) Heat oil on low flame in a frying pan.
10) When the oil is hot carefully slide them into the frying pan. Fry them on both sides till they turn golden brown and crispy.
11) Drain on an absorbent paper. Pat them dry on both sides to remove the excess oil.
12) Serve hot or warm as a starter with any green chutney or with a tomato sauce.
