Karachi Halwa (Corn Flour Halwa)

Karachi Halwa (Corn Flour Halwa)

Corn flour halwa also called as Karachi Halwa is a very simple and easy to make sweet. It can be made quickly and requires very less ghee and the ingredients are minimum and easily available. Lets start this new year with this delicious recipe.

2 cups corn flour
5 cups powdered sugar
2 pinch of color
4 cups water
1 tsp cardamom powder
1/4 cup chopped dry fruits (I just used cashews)
2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)

1) In a bowl mix corn flour and color along with 2 cups of water.
2) Break the lumps if any and mix it well.
3) In a deep bottomed frying pan, add about a 1 tbsp of ghee and fry the chopped cashews and keep them aside.
5) Grease a plate/tray with ghee that you would use to put the halwa before cutting to pieces.
4) In a frying pan add the remaining water and then powdered sugar and heat on medium flame and stir so that
the sugar dissolves completely in the water.
5) Do not stir any more and leave it to boil for about 3- 4 minutes.
6) Now slowly pour the corn flour mixture to the boiling sugar syrup and stir continuously so that it mixes evenly
and no lumps are formed. Add a the remaining ghee to it. Reduce the heat to low.
7) Stir for another 3-4 minutes and  the mixture will turn glossy and jelly like. It will start leaving the sides of the pan.
8) Add chopped cashews/dry fruits and then cardamom powder and mix.
9) Remove from heat an spread it evenly greased plate/tray.
10) Let it cool and then cut into desired shapes and serve.
11) Store in refrigerator. It will stay good for about 3 - 4 days.
